Behind The Design: AMSTERDAM

Posted by Julian Moran on January 28, 2026

Travel has always been central to our design process, serving as both a catalyst for creativity and a way to reconnect with a sense of curiosity and possibility. During a recent visit to Amsterdam, what stood out most was not just the rhythm of the canals or the quiet geometry of the city, but the omnipresence of flowers.

From market stalls to window boxes, public gardens to tucked-away residential streets, the city feels deeply attuned to color, seasonality, and care. That reverence for florals, especially during moments of seasonal transition, became the foundation for our newest addition to the WANDERLUST collection: AMSTERDAM.

The WANDERLUST collection draws inspiration from the landscapes and cultural textures of ICELAND, SEDONA, TOKYO, and now AMSTERDAM. Each place offers a distinct atmosphere, but all share a sense of movement and reflection that translates naturally into wallcovering. AMSTERDAM brings a softer, more expressive energy to the collection, shaped by the city’s relationship to nature and its embrace of color as a daily presence rather than an embellishment.

The design itself references tulips not as literal motifs, but as layered impressions. Petal-like forms overlap and drift across the surface, creating a mural that feels fluid and immersive rather than decorative.

Vertical linework introduces a gentle rhythm, echoing the city’s narrow facades and the steady movement of water through the canals. The result is a composition that feels alive but grounded, expressive without being overpowering. AMSTERDAM is offered in five distinct colorways, each capturing a different mood inspired by the city and its seasons. AMSTERDAM | BLUEFIELDS, AMSTERDAM | CANDY, AMSTERDAM | NIGHT, AMSTERDAM | ROSE, and AMSTERDAM | SPRING.

Across all five variations, the pattern maintains a sense of balance. It can anchor a space or soften it, depending on scale, light, and surrounding materials. In residential settings, AMSTERDAM works beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, or dining areas where a sense of calm and openness is desired. In more public or commercial environments, the mural quality allows it to function as a focal wall that brings warmth and visual continuity without overwhelming the architecture.

At its core, AMSTERDAM reflects the restorative quality of travel itself. Being immersed in a place that values beauty, care, and seasonal change can feel quietly healing, especially during times of transition. This design captures that feeling and translates it into interiors that feel hopeful, layered, and intentional.

AMSTERDAM joins ICELAND, SEDONA, and TOKYO as part of the WANDERLUST collection, continuing an ongoing exploration of how place, memory, and atmosphere shape the way we experience space. Designers and architects interested in sampling or customizing AMSTERDAM for an upcoming project are invited to explore the collection or reach out to our team to begin a conversation.
