Scenes of Serenity: Recontextualizing Our Favorite Murals in Fantastical Spaces
Posted by Julian Moran on
Our living spaces should evoke more than beauty; they should inspire tranquility, restoration and creativity. With our practice, we seek to transform rooms into serene oases, drawing deeply from the textures and rhythms of both natural and urban landscapes. This dedication is vividly showcased in this latest collection of scenes, which highlight some of our most cherished designs. This collection of scenes reimagines our signature patterns within fantastical settings, each carefully chosen to amplify the inherent motifs and influences that inspire our designs. By placing these patterns in such vivid and idealized contexts, we seek to capture the deeper emotional resonance they are meant to evoke, highlighting their ability to not only beautify a space but to fundamentally change its character and the experiences of those within it.
The design process at our studio begins with an inspiration rooted deeply in the natural world and its intersection with human creativity. For instance, the Currents | Clay pattern embodies the soft, continuous movement of the earth’s elemental forces, while the Falcon | Blue Powder and Falcon | Mushroom designs draw inspiration from the peregrine falcon—an omnipotent, prophetic spirit—capturing the essence of its majestic and dynamic presence, bringing a touch of the wild's profound mystery into indoor spaces.
Reef | Cool Gray is visually recontextualized in a serene scene where the swirled overlapping effect of the wallpaper blends seamlessly with a rocky seaside at sunset. The arch-wall, part of this majestic view, stands as a testament to the organic undulating colors in underwater plants, with the orange hues of the setting sun reflecting beautifully on the water, creating a tranquil and soothing atmosphere.
The Melt | Dawn design captures the serene yet vibrant palette of the sunrise, evoking feelings of optimism and renewal akin to the first light of day. This pattern is placed within an architectural structure in a desolate desert landscape, where the warm pastel colors of dawn highlight the curves of the arch against the flat expanse, enhancing the melting colors of the setting sun mirrored in the wallpaper’s gradient hues.
Similarly, the Migration | Snow pattern, influenced by the stunning murmurations of birds across a snowy sky, illustrates the harmony and fluid motion that can exist within a space. This pattern is depicted in a graceful archway overlooking the sea at sunrise, where the structure frames a scene of flying birds against the backdrop of an endless ocean, enhancing the pattern’s representation of movement and fluidity.
Lastly, the Alpenglow | Earth and River | Shell designs encapsulate the serene flow and subtle color transitions found in riverbeds and desert sands. These patterns are each showcased in a desert setting at sunrise and midday, where the soft ombre effect of the wallpaper transitions from top to base, reflecting the natural color melting witnessed in river landscapes, emphasizing a peaceful continuity in their aesthetic.
Each of these scenes not only highlights the unique characteristics of the patterns but also enriches the viewer’s understanding of how these designs can transform and elevate a space, offering a window into the potential of our wallcoverings to create not just decorative backgrounds but immersive environments.
The images presented, while illustrative, are more than just visual representations—they are the embodiment of the feeling we aim to achieve in real-life environments. They depict architectural forms and landscapes enhanced by our wallcoverings, serving as a blueprint for the aspirational spaces we aim to create. These renders showcase environments that are not only restorative and peaceful but also reflective and aspirational, aiming to transform any space into a sanctuary of calm and beauty.
We invite interior designers, architects, and design enthusiasts to explore the stories and inspirations behind our patterns.
