Office Oasis: Helping Design More Creative & Productive Workspaces
Posted by Jill Malek on
Numerous studies have shown that the design of a workspace can have a significant impact on productivity and psychological well-being. Whether it’s the use of color, texture or lighting, a well-designed workspace can create a sense of calm, reduce stress and stimulate creativity. According to an article from the British-American Business Council, a carefully designed workspace can have a significant impact on employee productivity and well-being. A study by the World Green Building Council found that employees who work in well-ventilated offices with access to natural light and views of nature reported a 15% higher level of well-being and were 6% more productive than those who work in less ideal conditions.
For example, blue has been shown to enhance creativity and promote a sense of calm, while yellow is associated with optimism and mental clarity. In terms of lighting, natural light has been linked to better sleep quality and more alertness during the day, while excessive noise levels can increase stress and decrease concentration. With this in mind, we wanted to share some of our corporate office projects that showcase our ability to enhance productivity, inspire creativity, and create a positive impact on interior spaces.
Project 1: Accenture Offices in St. Petersburg Florida
At the Accenture offices in St. Petersburg Florida, we created a space that envelopes you in soft blues, while stimulating productivity and creativity. The REEF | BLUES pattern we featured spans the entirety of a large conference room and is inspired by the undulating colors in underwater plants. The deep shades of blue create a professional, yet comforting atmosphere that stimulates open conversation and new ideas. Paired with floor-to-ceiling windows, the design creates an airy, flowy feeling that can bring about more creativity and help to reduce stress. Interior Design by ASD | SKY.
Project 2: Google’s NY HQ
We had the pleasure of working with Google’s New York headquarters to enhance their cafe with our dimensional felt. Our custom TERRAINS | DIMENSIONAL FELT added a touch of dynamism to the space, with the textured design helping to create a sense of warmth and comfort. Our felt is known for its durability and sustainability, making it the perfect choice for a commercial space like Google’s. With its dynamic design, our felt adds a playful touch to the cafe, encouraging creativity and collaboration among employees. Project 3: Ernst & Young’s Chicago HQ
At Ernst & Young’s Chicago HQ, we used our Sandstone | Silver Rock, Migration | Snow and Tides | Freshwater patterns to create a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. The goal of the project was to unify the various spaces in the office, such as conference rooms, office spaces, and public bathrooms, with designs that promote productivity and improve the psychological well-being of the space. The design team at Perkins + Will narrowed down their image and color palette to these three popular patterns within our collection that met the brief and the project was underway. Project 4: Custom Mural Wallcovering for PENN 1 Plaza’s WorkLife Office Suites
At PENN 1 Plaza’s WorkLife Office Suites, we created a custom geometric mural wallcovering that blends form and function seamlessly. For this project, we were asked to create a custom mural for the stairway connecting two different levels within the space. In our initial discussions, the client made it clear that they were looking for warm geometric colors that would blend into one another, helping to break-up the bi-level space and give a sense of dimension throughout the interior. With a palette of rich blue/greens and warm, cherry-orange tones already present elsewhere in the space, they wanted a piece to seamlessly blend their palette and create a striking background that would stimulate patrons and perhaps even help increase their productivity.
